International stars and South African motocross talent will go head-to-head in an evening of aerial tricks, music and pyrotechnics.

Johannesburg, South Africa (14 October 2026) – Some of the world’s top motocross and freestyle motocross riders will be heading to Johannesburg in November for King of the Whip, where style, control and daring aerial tricks will take centre stage.

The event returns this year, bringing together South African competitors and international riders for the Best Whip and Freestyle Motocross Best Trick contests. This year’s line-up is set to feature 30 riders (18 local and 12 international) competing for a share of a R250,000 prize purse.

Australia’s Pat Bowden also made an impression at last year’s event, winning both Freestyle Motocross Best Trick categories. South African riders will be looking to challenge the international talent, with freestyle rider Dallan Goldman among those expected to compete, alongside motocross racers Trent Valsecchi, Ryan Adler and Dalton Venter.

The Best Whip competition will test riders on their style, height, execution and variation as they launch their bikes into the air and throw them sideways before bringing them back into position for landing. The Best Trick contests will feature both upright and inverted manoeuvres, pushing riders to show off their technical skill and creativity.

The event has grown into one of the biggest freestyle motocross spectacles on the international calendar and has sold out for the past four years. Beyond the competition, spectators can expect music, DJs, pyrotechnics and activities around the venue.

With a mix of local pride and international rivalry, the question heading into November is whether Fontenot can hold on to his crown or whether one of the South African riders will take the title.
