The foundation’s soup kitchen serves around 350 meals daily and is asking the public to help cover the cost of feeding the community.

Johannesburg, South Africa (14 October 2026) – For some people in Krugersdorp West, a meal at the WAS Foundation’s soup kitchen is an important part of getting through the day. The organisation serves around 350 plates of food daily, with its dining area filling up as many as six times to accommodate everyone who comes through its doors.

The first group to be served each day is made up of approximately 80 senior citizens. The foundation says these older community members deserve to be welcomed with dignity, kindness and a nourishing meal.

Once one group has finished eating, the next comes in, continuing until everyone has been served. Behind the daily effort is a team of people working to make sure that those experiencing hardship have somewhere to turn for food and support.

Keeping the kitchen running depends on donations, and the foundation is appealing to the public to help it continue serving the community. Contributions of any size can help cover the cost of ingredients and keep meals coming.

The organisation has also shared a wishlist for people who would prefer to support its work in other ways.

The WAS Foundation is a registered public benefit organisation. Donors who require a Section 18A tax certificate can request one by emailing [email protected].
