When a mother and her two young children found themselves stranded and vulnerable, Goodson Mseleshe stepped in to help – and now, his selfless heart is winning praise from across the nation!

Durban, South Africa (19 October 2026) – As our original Good Things Guy has said before: “Everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their lives.”

A kind man named Goodson Mseleshe received his last week Friday.

He’s the Durban security officer whose story we shared last week after he helped a mother and her two children when their car ran out of petrol on a dangerous bend of Sarnia Road.

Goodson had just finished a night shift when he spotted the stranded family. He had just R100 left in his pocket, but instead of thinking about his own needs or how he would get home, he used it to buy them petrol so they could make it home safely.

When the mom offered to pay him back, he refused because, to him, all that mattered was knowing they had arrived home safely.

Impressed by one of their own, his employer, Excellerate Security, held a special ceremony this morning to present him with a Distinguished Conduct Award for his actions.

Goodson was brought into a room where the entire company had gathered to watch a live broadcast of the Feel Good Friday segment by Good Things Guy’s very own Brent Lindeque on eNCA, where his story was featured. An emotional Goodson was blown away to see himself on the big screen and realise just how far his act of kindness had reached.

“He did not know that was coming, and when he understood what was happening, heard his name and saw images being displayed, he became very overwhelmed, as the images depicted,” shares Barry Smith, Excellerate Security Regional Director in Durban.

Goodson was praised for what he had done and for being an ambassador of the company’s new slogan, ‘where better begins’, which was launched a few weeks earlier.

He was also given the Katanga Cross, a symbol of ‘where better begins’.

“Goodson becomes the first security officer within our company to receive this reward and sign his name on our pledge wall.”

After receiving a cash amount, certificate, hamper and the Katanga Cross, Goodson said he had never expected any of this and was very grateful. He was full of smiles as the office chanted his name and applauded at the end of the ceremony.

It was a fitting tribute to a man who helped without expecting anything in return – and who has inspired thousands because of it. Well done, Goodson; you deserve every bit of this recognition!
