South African surfer Linnie Ash, proving that experience and determination can be a powerful combination in the waves.
Cape Town, South Africa (21 October 2026) – Linnie Ash has added another major achievement to her surfing career, winning the World Ladies Championship at the 2026 Kneeboard Surfing World Titles in Brazil.
The Kommetjie local claimed the title at Itaúna Beach in Saquarema, where more than 100 surfers from 12 countries gathered from 22 to 30 August to compete across junior, professional, veteran and over-70 categories.
The victory was especially meaningful because it marked her return to the top after first winning the Ladies Open Kneeboard Surfing World Championship in Portugal in 2022.
She was 61 at the time, competing against women less than half her age. Four years later, she has reclaimed the world crown, navigating challenging surf conditions that saw some competitors reluctant to take to the water.
The latest win makes Linnie a double world champion and adds another highlight to a sporting journey that extends well beyond kneeboard surfing.
She has earned provincial colours in seven sports: judo, athletics, netball, hockey, longboard surfing, shortboard surfing and kneeboard surfing.
Her achievements in kneeboard surfing have also earned her South African national colours, following her success as a multiple South African Ladies Open champion.
Linnie’s latest world title is a reminder that sporting success is not limited by age. Years of experience, dedication and a willingness to keep competing have helped her reach the top of the international stage once again.
Linnie returned home with a title that reflects both her skill in the water and her staying power in the sport.
Kommetjie has every reason to celebrate: its local champion has made waves on the world stage once more.
