The man who would never turn the other way when an animal or child is in need now urgently needs the community to turn toward him and help fill the shelter’s empty bowls.
Soshanguve, South Africa (26 October 2026) – Whether it is rushing to reach a dog in distress, ensuring healthier futures through sterilisation drives, or even feeding children in the local community, the Soshanguve Animal Shelter and Educentre works tirelessly to serve the vulnerable.
At the heart of the shelter is its passionate founder, Tebogo Maredi, who provides love and refuge to animals subjected to ill-treatment. His journey has never been about wealth or status; instead, it revolves around the kind of love that notices an abandoned dog shivering in the cold and stops everything to offer comfort.
Beyond rescuing animals, his shelter also doubles as an Educentre, offering a place where local children learn about compassion, responsibility, and the beauty of giving back.
Now, however, the very lifeline that has protected countless defenceless animals is facing a crisis. The shelter is running extremely low on dog food and urgently needs the community’s help.
The situation reached a critical point earlier this week when Tebogo found himself penning a heartfelt post, sharing that he was down to his very last bag.
“Every day we feed the animals in our care as well as community dogs who depend on us for food. With so many hungry mouths to feed, our last bag won’t last long,” Tebogo shared.
“We cannot do this alone. We are asking our supporters, friends and animal lovers to please help us restock our dog food supply.”
The public can support the shelter by donating dog food directly to their premises at Plot 139 Kolgans Street, Onderstepoort, Pretoria. Alternatively, financial contributions to help purchase food can be made quickly via SnapScan or using the banking details below:
