After being diagnosed with breast cancer twice, Itumeleng is sharing her story through SPAR Water’s pink-cap campaign to encourage awareness and conversations about early detection.
South Africa (27 October 2026) – An ordinary object can carry a message that is anything but ordinary.
For SPAR Water, that message comes in the form of a pink bottle cap. This serves as a small reminder of the women whose lives have been affected by breast cancer.
As part of its breast cancer awareness campaign, SPAR Water is turning one in every 12 caps pink on its 500ml water bottles, representing the campaign’s message that one in 12 women will be affected by breast cancer.
Behind one of those stories is Itumeleng, a breast cancer survivor who knows first-hand how much a diagnosis can change your life.
In a video shared by Cancervive, Itumeleng opens up about being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009 and then again 10 years later.
Her first diagnosis came while she was raising a six-year-old child, a time she remembers as particularly difficult.
With limited information available to her, navigating the experience was challenging, and the journey brought uncertainty alongside the physical and emotional demands of the illness.
Now, she is using her experience to help others understand the importance of breast cancer awareness and early detection.
Through Cancervive, the message is to share information and encourage people to speak openly about breast cancer and to help others recognise the importance of taking their health seriously.
Itumeleng’s story is a reminder that behind every statistic is a real person, with loved ones and responsibilities.
The SPAR Water campaign aims to bring those personal experiences into everyday conversations. By placing pink caps on selected bottles, it encourages people to pause, notice the message and listen to the stories of those affected.
The campaign also highlights the value of support, understanding and access to information, particularly for people who may be facing a diagnosis without knowing where to turn.
So, the next time you reach for a bottle of SPAR Water, keep an eye out for the pink cap. It may be a small detail, but it carries a reminder to pay attention to your health and make space for the stories that deserve to be heard.
