Recycler’s Hot Morning

When an honest recycler named Amos stopped by the Beanies for Beings charity shop looking for recyclables on a hot Saturday, he found so much more than he expected. He found kindness, community, and care that will last long past the weekend.

Northriding, South Africa (27 October 2026) – When an honest man named Amos stopped by Beanies for Beings two Saturdays ago looking for recyclable waste, he crossed paths with charity volunteers who were moved to spread a little kindness his way.

Amos collects recyclables like cans and boxes to try to make ends meet. During his recent visit to the Beanies for Beings charity shop, he met Megan Botha and Clarah. Unfortunately, at the time, they didn’t have any recyclable items to give him. But when they noticed how hot he was from being out in the sun all morning, Megan found another, immediate way to help.

“I asked him to wait while I grabbed a few bottles of frozen water and some meals of hope instead,” she shared.

When she came back outside to give him the items, there Amos was – already busy helping offload donations from a delivery truck.

“His face lit up at the sight of the water, and he knew exactly what the meals of hope were. He was so, so humble and grateful,” Megan recalls.

Megan and Clarah asked him to return the following Saturday. When Amos came back this past weekend to collect the recycling they had been saving for him, he couldn’t believe his eyes when Clarah further pulled out a suitcase packed with clothing and toiletries, a bag of groceries, and, of course, more frozen water.

His heartfelt gratitude warmed Megan and Clarah’s hearts and spoke volumes of the genuine soul he is. Moving forward, the charity will be saving recyclables for him to collect every second Saturday, officially welcoming him into the Beanies for Beings community.

More than just a story of finding help, Amos’ encounter with kindred spirits at Beanies for Beings is a beautiful testimony to how knocking on the right door can mean stepping into a circle of community where kindness is already waiting on the other side.
