The small Johannesburg school community collected 151 Santa Shoeboxes, each prepared with love, hope and kindness for a child waiting to receive it.

Johannesburg, South Africa (08 November 2026) – South Africa’s most beloved children’s charity, the Santa Shoebox Project, reached 95% of its pledge goal this week!

The organisation shared the news on Facebook, thanking its generous supporters for helping it achieve its ambitious goal of delivering Shoeboxes to more than 80,000 children in need this year.

Part of the magic is packing a shoebox personally for a child you have selected from the organisation’s beneficiary list. Each box is filled with eight items they may need, including soap, a wash cloth, toothpaste and a toothbrush, new clothes in the correct size, school stationery, a toy and sweeties.

Anyone can take part and make a pledge – individuals, families, friend groups, businesses, clubs and even schools.

This week, Assumption Convent School in Johannesburg proved that even a small school can have a big heart. Over the past few weeks, the school community has worked together to create and pack 151 Santa Shoeboxes!

Every box was filled with daily essentials, school supplies, a few festive treats, as well as kindness, hope and love.

“Each box represents a promise made to a specific child, ensuring they feel valued, noticed, and cared for this festive season,” the school shared, thanking its community for making it happen.

Throughout the coming weeks, local teams of volunteers will receive the boxes at designated drop-off points (there are 70 scattered throughout South Africa), where they are inspected for safety and sorted according to beneficiary facility. The handover events take place at schools and care facilities thereafter.

So far, the Santa Shoebox Project has reached more than 1.5 million children since 2006. This year’s drive will raise the tally even higher.

There is still time to pledge a Santa Shoebox at selected drop-off venues. By registering online and selecting a convenient drop-off location, you’ll be able to choose a child by name, age, gender and clothing size to shop for.

Pledges remain open until each drop-off point closes or all available children at that location have been matched, so the easiest way to check availability is through the Santa Shoebox website.
