FOOD Lover’s Market and Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing partnered up to raise funds for FoodForward SA. Thanks to their shoppers, 280,000 meals have been delivered.

FoodForward SA is an organisation that collects edible surplus food from manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers, and “redistributes the food to hundreds of verified NPO’s that collectively feed thousands of hungry people daily.”

FOOD Lover’s is in the top ten companies that provide FoodForward with food for the hungry. As another way to help the organisation, FOOD Lover’s partnered with Tru-Cape Fruit to raise money to feed even more people.

They created the World Hunger Day campaign during the month of May. Each purchase of a bag of Tru-Cape apples contributed towards providing 283,648 meals to hungry children in the Western Cape, by raising nearly a quarter of a million Rand.

“At Food Lover’s Market we aspire to a South Africa that is hunger free. With 14 million South Africans going hungry everyday, Food Lover’s Market – through its Earth Lovers pillar – want to make a sustainable, impactful difference in the communities in which we operate. A big part of this is to address hunger through our partnership with FoodForward SA. “

“We have not only managed to shine a spotlight on these issues, but also raise a significant amount of money that has been donated to Food Forward SA, enabling them to continue with the hugely impactful work they do.” – Andrew Millson, Head of Earth Lovers

Every Food Lover’s Market store has partnered with a local charity, mostly aimed at children. In the last year, have contributed towards 1.5 million meals in total.

So to every person who bought a bag of apples or pears, you did this, you helped raise enough to feed 280,000 hungry people. Well done South African shoppers!
