Mendel Katz filmed a short film about the country’s political heritage and how South Africa has been reborn since its days of Apartheid.
South Africa (22 September 2017) – Mendel Katz captured the real South Africa through his lens. The beautiful short film highlights where South Africa is today, after all the years of political oppression.
We love sharing videos of the stunning beaches, mountains and forests or of the wild animals that roam our grasslands but seeing the real people of our country, the men, women and children that are the majority of our population, living with joy in their eyes, is more beautiful than any other video we could have shared.
Mendel captured the true nature of our spirit and our heritage and it is captivating!
Our political culture is a dark one, and we are still in the early days of our democracy, but there is hope. There is still work to be done! As Nelson Mandela said,
“As we celebrate, let us remind ourselves that our work is far from complete. Where there is poverty and sickness, including AIDS, where human beings are being oppressed, there is more work to be done. Our work is freedom for all …” – Nelson Mandela
Mendel called the short film “A Country Reborn” and said,
“The inspiration for creating this short is to celebrate how far South Africa has come since Apartheid, while also highlighting it’s long-term battle against poverty.
The intention is not to gloss over the current political issues, particularly regarding the ANC, but rather to showcase the full political rights of the citizenry.”
Heritage Day encourages South Africans to celebrate their culture and the diversity of their beliefs and traditions, in the broader context of a nation that belongs to all its people.
