A young lady fighting her greatest battle has always dreamed of being a ballerina so the Reach for a Dream Foundation made it a reality.
Bloemfontein, South Africa – In the last 30 years, the Reach for a Dream Foundation has fulfilled over 18,300 children’s dreams. They have also touched the lives of over 45 000 more children through their various projects.
The Foundation works to fulfil the dreams of children between the ages of 3 and 18 who are living with life-threatening illnesses. The dream team uses the special day to help the children regain some of their childhoods which mostly consists of medical routines and being cautious.
“We believe in the power of dreams and we encourage children to use their dreams to fight life-threatening illnesses. We seek, as far as possible, to make dreams come true and our donors and sponsors make this happen.” – Reach for a Dream
Whatever the dream, no matter how big or small, it often gives the child hope and courage to carry on the fight. The fulfilment of these dreams inspires hope and courage in the dreamer and helps them believe that tomorrow is worth fighting for.
Boitumelo (9) from Welkom was one of the most recent recipients and dreamed of being a ballerina one day. The Reach for a Dream Foundation gave her a day as a ballerina to make her dream come true and inspire hope.
The Elna van der Walt Ballet School in Bloemfontein helped the foundation make Boitumelo’s dream a reality.
“She gracefully danced with her peers & adored her slippers! The afternoon ended with a surprise outside the ballet studio – a Nintendo Switch to keep her entertained during all the hours of treatment still ahead. Keep dancing beautiful ballerina! Thank you to Mr Jose Jardim for making this dream possible.”
Dreams are made possible by generous donors as well as by anyone who wore slippers outside of their home for slipper day this year. Every sticker sold for slipper day helps the foundation make dreams come true. You may have missed slipper day this year, but you can look forward to it again next year so stay tuned to Reach for a Dream’s Facebook page for the next one.
