Motus took the step to invest in the education of South African children, from touring the country teaching road safety to teaching children to read; they empower millions!
South Africa (23 January 2020) – Motus is South Africa’s leading automotive group. The company has a large footprint in South Africa which inspired them to drive education within small communities.
Motus has established numerous programmes that work within education and motoring industries. Motivated by the country’s shocking road fatality statistics, Motus is actively working towards implementing sustainable programmes to invert the rising death toll.
They launched the Road Safety Awareness Campaign, which visits schools and puts on an entertainment show all about road safety. The campaign empowers children to follow road safety rules and helps them to educate their parents. Since launching the campaign, they have touched the lives of a staggering 1.4 million children. This number will grow year on year as they reach more schools.
Another fantastic initiative to boost education in South Africa was to set up library resource centres in communities where there are no libraries. The focus is to increase the literacy level in South Africa. Motus set up 35 fully equipped library resource centres in some of the most poverty-stricken areas.
The libraries are being staffed by teachers who take the time to assess each child’s reading ability and works to give them books that they are capable of reading, but that will also challenge them. Tubello Sefume, a junior manager from the Motus Community Trust, says she found her passion when she started working at the library.
“I had no experience of working at a library but I loved to read. We were trained specifically on how to give books to learners aimed at their level. They flocked in numbers and what I realised is that most learners, they were intimidated by books. So most of them read foundation phase books. I have found my passion here at Motus Community Trust. It is a great experience for me to be able to work with children.”
In addition to children learning to read, teachers can access electronic CAPS-related content to augment their lesson plans.
Through road safety, community- and skills development programmes, Motus is facilitating a legacy of success for millions of South Africans. Now at 41 libraries and over 1.5 million scholars, Motus’ commitment journey continues.
The company gives people the confidence to strive for more in life!
