Chaeli Mycroft has done it again! She has completed the Comrades Marathon, and now she and the team are setting their sights on 2023.

Durban, South Africa (30 August 2022) – Chaeli Mycroft, 28 years old, is an inspirational young woman with an incredible story worth sharing. She uses her platform to inspire others and show that you can do anything, no matter your ability.

Chaeli was born in 1994 with cerebral palsy, but she has never let disability dismantle her dreams. Cerebral palsy has confined Michaela “Chaeli” Mycroft to a wheelchair, which inspired her to become the world’s first “ability activist”.

At age nine, she teamed up with her sister and three friends to raise R20 000 for her motorised wheelchair. The success of this small project awakened Mycroft to the bigger picture — promoting the ability of others like herself.

Her goal is to challenge the world’s understanding of what it is to create an inclusive society. And she does this by taking on challenges nobody would ever expect her to complete, and yet, she does!

No stranger to breaking ground and challenging misconceptions, Chaeli has already made history multiple times over… from summiting Mount Kilimanjaro to being the first athlete in a wheelchair to complete the Comrades Marathon, from winning the International Children’s Peace Prize to founding the Chaeli Campaign to champion a more ability-focused and inclusive world.

With the Comrades finally back on the sporting event calendar for 2022, Chaeli knew she had to do it again, and she did!

“What a day! It’s always an incredible experience to be a part of the ultimate human race but to run with unbelievable people and witnessing how beautifully supportive people can be to one another when we share a goal, is so special.” – Chaeli Mycroft

Chaeli and her team shared a helping hand with Claudia Burrough, who travelled from the UK to complete her first-ever Comrades in a wheelchair. You can read her story here. Burrough said that Chaeli was a massive help in her taking part.

“Huge congratulations to Chaeli Mycroft and Team Beastie for finishing and for showing me the ropes, without you and your campaigning, I would never have had the chance to take part!”

Chaeli is now planning the back-to-back run and completing the up run in 2023. There are many more adventures on the cards, so be sure to follow Chaeli as she continues to break down barriers. You can find her on Instagram here.
