From building Discovery into a global powerhouse to writing a book about human potential, Adrian Gore joined the Good Things Guy to share why optimism might be our greatest superpower.
Johannesburg, South Africa (05 November 2026) – What if changing your life, achieving incredible things, becoming successful, and even helping to fix South Africa starts with something as simple as choosing to see the good? Not ignoring the bad but recognising the opportunities we so often overlook.
On this week’s “Good Things with Brent Lindeque” poddie, I got to sit down with Discovery founder Adrian Gore. And it was really such an incredibly inspiring conversation.
Adrian founded Discovery in 1992. Today, the South African business serves over 50 million customers across 36 markets. But our conversation wasn’t about building a billion-rand business. It was about people, purpose, potential and his new book, The Four Principles, which explores how optimism, time, meaningful goals and the decisions we make can change our lives.
The conversation leaned a lot into optimism. Adrian explained that our brains are naturally wired to notice negativity, which means we often miss the good happening around us.
“Realism is about seeing everything,” he told me, and that includes the positive.
Of course, we also spoke about South Africa, its enormous challenges and its even greater potential. Adrian believes that despite our problems, we have amazing people, incredible opportunities and the ability to turn things around.
“The narrative is much worse than the reality,” he explained.
We chatted about his journey, what still inspires him after three decades, the importance of making our time count and why he believes there is greatness inside every one of us. I won’t give too much away because I really want you to watch or listen to this episode. Having Adrian in the studio was a career highlight.
And yes, maybe the good things we’re looking for are already right in front of us. We just need to start seeing them.
