Relebohile Mofokeng scored twice as Bafana delivered another dominant performance in Cairo.
Cairo, Egypt (01 October 2026) – Bafana Bafana are off to a flying start in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, with South Africa producing a commanding 5-0 victory over Eritrea in Cairo on Wednesday night.
After having to weather some early pressure, South Africa settled into the game and soon took control. Relebohile Mofokeng opened the scoring in the 19th minute before doubling the advantage deep into first-half stoppage time.
The 21-year-old’s brace was another encouraging moment in what has been a busy period for the young attacker. Since moving to Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise, Mofokeng has been getting valuable exposure to European football, and that confidence was on show in Cairo.

South Africa were also impressive at the other end of the pitch, with captain and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams producing several important saves to keep Eritrea at bay.
The result gives South Africa six points from their opening two AFCON qualifiers, putting them in a strong position at this early stage of the campaign.
Coach Pitso Mosimane says it was another positive outing.
“It was a good performance from our boys and they showed respect also. They showed respect to the opponents but also played proper football. We are very happy.”
Bafana will now face another test against Egypt in an international friendly at Cairo International Stadium on Sunday.
