Bushy, who was first found by a group of concerned municipal workers, now goes by Banjo. And he’s living his very best life.
Durban, South Africa (23 September 2026) – On a cold winter morning, a group of municipal workers were carrying out duties along power lines in eThekwini when they found a small, helpless pup in the bushes.
He was painfully thin, with a matted coat. He was covered in chickweed and dirt. He was alone and had quite clearly not had an easy start to life.
You’ll be happy to know that this story, despite its troubling start, has a tremendously happy ending! It’s all thanks to those workers, who decided to call the Kloof and Highway SPCA right away when they came across their four-legged friend.
“…Despite everything he had been through, the moment we offered him a bowl of food, his tail started wagging furiously as he gulped it down.” shared the SPCA.
Even though he had already suffered so much for such a small thing, he was still just an excited little pup.
“We took him inside, gave him a warm bath, and found him a cozy little jersey to help him warm up. We named him Bushy because of his wonderfully bushy coat and, of course, because he had been found in the bushes.”
You wouldn’t recognise Bushy today. For one, his name is Banjo now!
His coat is soft, and so is his massive, cosy bed. He lives in a palace, which he so generously shares with a family that dotes on him. He loves swimming, playing with his siblings – both four-legged and two-legged – and if doggies could speak, he’d tell you that the painful life he once lived feels like a faraway memory or a dream.

“The moment we shared Bushy’s story, one of our wonderful Kloof and Highway SPCA supporters, Candice Faurie, reached out and told us she would absolutely LOVE to give him a home. We couldn’t have wished for a better family for our scruffy little boy.” shared the SPCA in a recent update.
“From the moment Bushy was welcomed into the Faurie home, he was showered with love. Now renamed Banjo, he’s been enjoying long naps with the children, plenty of cuddles, relaxing massages, and all the affection he deserved after such a “ruff” start to life.
Watching Banjo settle into a family that adores him has been nothing short of magical. We know he has found his forever home, and a future filled with happiness, adventure, and unconditional love.”
