Kindness travelled across the world and landed in the hands of skilled young hockey players in Jozi.

Johannesburg, South Africa (12 July 2026) – It’s true what they say about kindness – it knows no borders.

Johannesburg-based sports charity organisation, Play It Forward, recently received over 18 boxes loaded with donated hockey kits and sports gear all the way from England.

The donation was made by Francesca, Elena, and Elizabetta, along with their families and friends from the Sevenoaks Hockey Club in Kent. Hurdles with customs led to a months-long struggle to get the donations over to South Africa, but the ladies pushed forward, and the delivery was made last week!

“This has been a donation in progress since November 2025 and we are overjoyed that everything has now arrived,” Play It Forward shared. “[They] were determined to get the kit to us despite the difficulties with SA customs, but it definitely paid off and we are forever grateful to them for this incredible donation.”

The organisation says that Soweto-based Pandas Hockey Club – a community-driven field hockey club that fosters sports development and leadership skills in township areas – will be the recipients of most of the kit, but the kindness has extended even further.

“Pandas Hockey Club are going to be the recipients of most of the kit and will distribute it to development hockey clubs around Southern Gauteng.”

“Love T-shirts, track suits tops, shoes and socks [were] dropped off at [Love] Is A Verb yesterday for the charities they support,” the organisation shared.

Another donation of tracksuit tops was made to Safe Study, which combines academic support, art enrichment and mental wellness for children in SA.

The hockey kits have made their way to Pandas Hockey Club for distribution, too.

Play It Forward collects gently used sporting gear and gets it to kids and communities who need it most. Find out more here.
