Brakpan SPCA Gives Final Salute to Brave K9 Officer Rocky

The Brakpan SPCA recently held a moment of silence to salute a fallen hero, K9 Officer Rocky, for years of dedicated service in protecting the community.

Brakpan, South Africa (31 August 2026) – In the midst of busy schedules, rescue call-outs and tireless work on the front lines fighting for the voiceless in their community, the Brakpan SPCA team recently took a moment to give a final salute to a four-legged hero who will be sorely missed.

Standing shoulder to shoulder, the team honoured K9 Officer Rocky, a true hero who dedicated years of service to Brakpan.

Service dogs are known for their ability to combine sharp instincts with unwavering loyalty, serving as life-saving guardians in our neighbourhoods and compassionate anchors that help restore security and peace of mind to those who need them most. Rocky was all of this and more.

“We gathered together in solemn respect, standing at attention to salute retired K9 Officer Rocky and support his family through their hardest goodbye,” the SPCA said.

“As a tribute to Rocky’s years of dedicated service, we honour all K9 officers who selflessly risk everything to protect our communities daily. Today [28 August], we hold space for every brave partner who has finished their watch.”

Each SPCA member present for his send-off, and for helping him cross the Rainbow Bridge, considered it a privilege to be there.

“We stand in awe of the legacy, protection and unconditional devotion he gave throughout his lifetime. Rest easy, Rocky. Your duty is complete.”

Though his work on earth is done, the impact of Rocky’s protection and the warmth of his loyalty will forever remain in the hearts of his family, his fellow officers and the entire Brakpan community he so faithfully served.
