Amarula recently won an award for their #DontLetThemDisappear campaign, which raised global awareness on the plight of the African elephant.
Johannesburg, South Africa – Amarula, Africa’s premium liqueur has been honoured with a 2017 African Leaders 4 Change Award at an event held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.
The first annual awards ceremony, held last month, celebrated African individuals, foundations and organisations who have brought about a positive change to the African continent.
Amarula was recognised in the African Leader in Philanthropist and Charity Partnership Award category for the #DontLetThemDisappear campaign, which raised global awareness on the plight of the African elephant, where one elephant is lost every 15 minutes to ivory poaching.
“We are extremely proud to accept the 2017 African Leaders 4 Change Award and yet humbled by having shared the stage with the likes of Yvonne Chaka Chaka, GraҫaMachel and Mandla Mandela who accepted the award on behalf of the late President Nelson Mandela,” says Saramien Dekker, Global Brand Development Manager.
“We value the recognition from industry experts for the various awards we recently received. We hope to continue to inspire consumers around the world with our proudly African proposition” concludes Dekker.
During the campaign, the company removed the elephant from their packaging to make an impact and show what the world would look like without elephants. They also created a video showing a ranger track the ivory from the point of the poached elephant all the way to a New York woman who had no idea where her piece of jewellery came from.
The company has made big changes in the conservation world as they fight to protect their brand ambassador. They deserve all the recognition they are receiving because of their hard work to make a change. Well done Amarula!
