South African agencies just won 20 awards at the most coveted awards for the creative and marketing communications industry… the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
The Lions are the most established and coveted awards for the creative and marketing communications industry. Winning at the Festival puts creators among the world’s elite. The trophies are recognised globally as the ultimate achievement in creativity.
Winning one of these awards can be the difference in making it big as a company. The most recent awards saw TBWA\ Hunt Lascaris winning a total of 4 Lions, including 1 coveted Gold for its groundbreaking #BreakingBallet campaign. We have been discussing the BreakingBallet campaign for a while now because of its incredible take on modernising ballet.
TBWA\ Hunt Lascaris were not the only ones to win. South African agencies walked away with 20 Awards from this year’s Cannes Lions.
Ogilvy Cape Town won five awards in total, including one Grand Prix, one Silver Lion campaign, and three Bronze Lions. As mentioned above, TBWA\ Hunt Lascaris won four awards including one Gold Lion campaign, one Gold Lion, one Silver Lion campaign, and one Silver Lion.
Ogilvy Johannesburg and King James Group (Cape Town) both won three awards and 1886 (Johannesburg), DDB South Africa (Johannesburg), Havas (Johannesburg), POWA (Johannesburg)/Joe Public (Johannesburg), and Y&R South Africa (Johannesburg) all picked up one award each.
This is great news for South African creatives and it means their hard work has really paid off. Congrats to all the companies that took awards home. We are really proud.
