A local community initiative is about to turn crime on its head by introducing a wide ranging area security upliftment project to combat smash and grabs and similar activity in the area.
The Fourways community have taken it upon themselves to stop crime in the area, with a new community initiative that will keep the roads safer and cleaner!
Future City Fourways (FCF) has been working tirelessly behind the scenes for some time on a number of aspects of the Greater Fourways Community safety and is proud to announce that the project will officially be going live on Monday the 3rd of September.
The project was created by the Fourways community after a crime wave hit the area with various hijackings, smash and grabs and small robberies and the concept has grown from a simple idea to something that could benefit all areas.
The concept is simple but so clever… the intersections and roadways will receive dedicated surveillance patrols and rapid response security drawing on private sponsorships recently secured.
The areas to be covered are William Nicol from the Highway to Dainfern and Witkoppen Road from Douglas Drive to Main Road.
“The teams kicking off the project on Monday consist of uniformed and plain clothes members whose job it is in Phase 1 to “Observe and Report” to JMPD and SAPS on all suspicious activity they spot along their allocated routes of observation.
The teams will also be responsible for collecting and bagging litter which will be removed in the same area of coverage and in a novel use, they will also be utilised to provide regular traffic updates on all aspects of traffic in their area of responsibility and this will be broadcast on HOT 91,9 FM where they will be known as THE HOT SQUAD.”
The first corporates to support the new initiative were HOT91.9, Mass Mart/Builders Warehouse, Fourways Crossing, Century Property Group Incubation Hub and Future City Fourways but there is still space for others to get involved and uplift our area together!
“Community safety is simply too important to be left to chance and we call upon all our Fourways community to support the teams as they deploy and work to protect our community and all its members.
A community stands up and says enough to Smash and Grabs.”
