All it took to save a South African driver, after brutal stabbing, was a push of a button from a FREE life saving app!

It’s any driver’s worst nightmare to have your car give up the ghost. Add into the mix that it is three in the morning, and you are in an unsavoury neighbourhood, alone. Unfortunately, Mr. Albert Martin hit a trifecta of bad luck when he found himself in this exact scenario. Mr Martin did what most people would do and got out of the car to see if he could push start the car, which is when he was struck by another blow.

“These two guys approached me and asked me if they could help me push start the car. I was very grateful, and together we managed to get the car started,” says Martin.

It was then that the two guys turned on Martin and tried to steal his car.

“I was climbing into my car when the two guys attacked me with a knife. I fought them off, and managed to drive off, which is when I realised I had been stabbed.”

Martin’s luck only got worse from there. Bleeding profusely, and trying to navigate himself out of harm’s way, his car cut out, again. Martin, now desperate and certain that the two men were going to find him and finish him off, tried to pull himself together and make a plan.

“All I could think was that I would not be able to raise my 5-year-old daughter. I was completely panicked that the guys were going to come back and finish me off.”

Martin then remembered that he had installed Namola on his smartphone, and opened the app to request assistance.

“The most amazing women called me back within seconds. She confirmed my location and told me that there was a police station 3 km away that she would request assistance from. She stayed with me on the line, whilst her colleagues assisted in getting me the help that I needed. She was so calm and collected, and even when I wanted to get out of the car and run, she calmed me down and told me to stay put.”

Both the police and an ambulance arrived on scene within a couple of minutes and attended to Martin. It was just in the nick of time, as Martins’ lung had collapsed from the stabbing and he had to be admitted to hospital.

“I cannot thank Namola enough for their help. There is no doubt in my mind that I would have bled out in that car had they not got the help that I needed so quickly. The Agents were on point, kept me calm and helped me to get through an incredibly terrible situation. I will never be able to thank you enough,” said Martin.

Namola is the quickest way to request emergency assistance. By using your phone’s GPS location they are able to tell nearby responders who you are and where you are. When you request assistance through the Namola app, the Namola team immediately sends your request to local law enforcement and participating safety initiatives in your community so they can come to your aid as quickly as possible.

“We believe that a safe South Africa is only possible when communities and law enforcement work together. Our users are the eyes and ears of the community, and our Namola Watch Responders Network the safety net. The more people are involved across the country, the fewer criminals can hide. And the better we can help law enforcement do their job and hold them accountable.”
