Three South African brands have come together in a remarkable partnership, raising R2 million to support over 8,000 vulnerable children—proving that the power of collaboration can transform lives and inspire hope for a brighter future.
Western Cape, South Africa (30 September 2024) – In a heartwarming example of community support, three prominent South African brands have teamed up once again, raising a remarkable R2 million for vulnerable children across the country. The collaboration between Eskort, Saronsberg Cellar, and renowned artist Norman Catherine has not only produced exquisite wines but also helped make a significant difference in the lives of over 8,000 underprivileged children.
At the heart of this inspiring initiative is the Beeld-Kinderfonds, a South African fund dedicated to the development and welfare of vulnerable children.
Established to assist children facing the harsh realities of poverty, neglect, and abuse, Beeld-Kinderfonds partners with welfare organisations to create life-changing opportunities for young people. From supporting education programs to providing access to basic necessities, the fund works tirelessly to improve the lives of children who need it the most.
The third instalment of the Liberi wine project—aptly named after the Latin word for “children”—has achieved its most ambitious fundraising goal yet. This year proceeds from two limited-edition wines, a 2021 Shiraz and a 2020 Chardonnay, were handed over to the Beeld-Kinderfonds on September 9, 2024. Each bottle proudly displayed labels designed by Norman Catherine, whose unique surrealist artwork added an extra layer of appeal to the wine collection.
The collaboration between Eskort, Saronsberg Cellar, and Catherine resulted in a total of R2 million being raised. This achievement is a significant leap from the R800,000 raised in the first Liberi project in 2018, showcasing the growing impact of this initiative.
Beeld-Kinderfonds CEO Adrie van Staden expressed immense gratitude for the partnership, stating that the funds would be distributed across 20 child development projects, directly benefiting more than 8,000 children. She noted that the money would play a crucial role in unlocking the potential of South Africa’s vulnerable youth, giving them the opportunity to build brighter futures.
The Liberi wine project does more than just raise money; it unites South Africa’s love for art and wine with a purpose that transforms lives. By supporting the development of underprivileged children, this project is investing in the next generation, ensuring that they have the tools and opportunities to rise above their circumstances.
Eskort’s Chief Executive, Arnold Prinsloo, praised the collaboration, highlighting the efforts of Saronsberg wine estate owner Nick van Huysteen, former cellarmaster Dewaldt Heyns, and artist Norman Catherine. Prinsloo noted that the combination of fine art and fine wine had not only created a collectable masterpiece but had also made a significant contribution to the Beeld-Kinderfonds’ important work.
With each bottle sold, the Liberi project does more than celebrate the union of art and wine—it celebrates the lives of children whose futures are now filled with hope.
As Van Staden rightfully said, “South Africa has so many vulnerable children, and this money will go a long way towards unlocking their potential.”
It’s a powerful reminder that incredible things can happen when communities come together for a cause. As the Liberi wines continue to be prized by collectors, their true value lies in the lives they touch. This is more than just good news—it’s an inspiring success story that will impact generations to come.
