Upper Highway Baby Home, a shining beacon of love, care, and community support, emerges as the Best Non-Profit Organization in Durban, nurturing abandoned infants and spreading hope.

KwaZulu-Natal (19 August 2023) – In a heartwarming tale that warms our spirits, the Upper Highway Baby Home (UHBH) has been crowned the Best Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) in the vibrant city of Durban. This wonderful recognition comes courtesy of the esteemed Best of Durban Readers’ Choice Awards, illuminating the incredible dedication that UHBH has shown in caring for abandoned and vulnerable infants, giving them the love and warmth they deserve.

In just a short span of 4.5 years, the UHBH has woven an extraordinary tapestry of kindness and compassion, grabbing the community’s attention and hearts in the process. Not once, not twice, but thrice they have been heralded as the finest community champions. And not only that, they’ve held the prestigious title of Upper Highway’s very best for two consecutive years.

Kerry Stanton, one of the heroic co-founders, beams with pride, “Three years in a row now, we’ve snagged the best NPO title, reigning supreme in the Upper Highway region for two remarkable years. We’re genuinely humbled by this honour. Frankly, we didn’t even dream of clinching the Best of Durban award, considering the phenomenal efforts of countless other NPOs sprinkled throughout the greater Durban landscape.”

If there’s one secret recipe for UHBH’s success, it’s the magical potion of community kindness.

“We’re the channels through which others’ generosity flows,” Kerry whispers with gratitude.

With a colossal family of 1100 beneficiaries, many from the most vulnerable sections of society, UHBH’s embrace reaches way beyond its four walls. It’s the community’s spirit, the stuff of legends, that keeps the home’s wheels turning – whether it’s the gift of gently-used baby essentials or the funds that are the lifeblood of their noble mission.

“The waves of gratitude we’re riding are endless,” Gary shares, his voice dancing with emotion.

“We’re all sculpting a new narrative, snipping the chains of neglect, and gifting these little ones the chance they were born for.”

South Africa battles an alarming annual count of around 40,000 abandoned babies. Right in the heart of this crisis, UHBH stands tall, a beacon of solace and transformation. With love as their guiding light, they cradle these abandoned infants, guiding them towards forever families and lighting the way for a brighter tomorrow.

And just when you thought their halo couldn’t shine any brighter, UHBH threw the world’s grandest baby shower on Mandela Day. What did they unwrap? A staggering 15,000 diapers, 1,500 packs of baby wipes, and a mind-blowing 62 tons of essential goodies!

These blessings won’t just bless the little bundles of joy but also young mothers, showering them all with UHBH’s wholehearted devotion.

Gary’s parting words echo like a soft melody, “Our community’s support is nothing short of miraculous. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helps us shape futures, painting dreams and pathways for these deserving children.”
