Grabouw, South Africa (01 September 2026) – The Cape Epic is about to get a little more local. Grabouw youngster and Cycle Addict ambassador Enzoë Ayford has earned his place on the start line for the 2027 edition, joining the Grabouw Development Academy’s second team.

The road to the world of mountain-biking legends is officially getting a lot more exciting.

The Cape Epic is one of the biggest names in mountain biking, attracting top professionals as well as passionate amateur riders from around the world. It is a gruelling multi-day challenge through some of the Western Cape’s most spectacular terrain and simply making it to the start line is an achievement in itself.

His journey to the Cape Epic started last year when Dryland Events sponsored him to compete in the Cape Pioneer.

It was during that event that he met Peter von Praet from Peregrine Farm Stall in Grabouw. Peter was impressed not only by Enzoë’s strength on the bike, but also by his attitude and determination. That meeting has now helped open the door to something much bigger.

Peter says the goal is not simply to get a team onto the Cape Epic start line, but to use cycling to create more opportunities for young riders in the Grabouw community.

The vision is to introduce more children to cycling, help talented riders develop and give them the chance to experience competitive events that may otherwise feel completely out of reach.

The Cape Epic brings together riders from all walks of life. From elite professionals chasing victory to amateur cyclists taking on one of the biggest challenges of their lives.

Now, Enzoë gets to be part of that mix. And for Cycle Addict, it is a chance to see one of its young ambassadors take another big step in his cycling journey.

The team says the hope is that his story will inspire even more young riders to get on a bike, discover what they are capable of and realise that opportunities can come from the most unexpected places.
