When some of the most dedicated rhino rangers needed new boots to continue their heroic work, South Africans stepped in to help them get back on their feet!
Mpumalanga, South Africa (13 August 2025) – At the heart of wildlife conservation is the challenging frontline work carried out by our boots-on-the-ground who brave potentially dangerous environments to safeguard endangered and vulnerable creatures.
But what happens when their boots physically wear out from long hours on foot, tough terrain, and the harsh elements? Well, in South Africa, the answer is simple: collective generosity funds new ones so that the good work can continue!
This was remarkably demonstrated following the Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary’s recent fundraiser appeal on social media to raise funds for new boots for its dedicated rangers.
“Thanks to an incredible collective generosity, we were able to fund boots for every ranger to continue their vital work,” Care for Wild shared in a post.
“There’s nothing quite like a well-worn pair of boots to say ‘ranger’, dust-covered and worn from walking kilometre after kilometre to protect wildlife. Every footprint tells a quiet story of resilience, dedication, and commitment to keeping rhinos safe,” Care for Wild added, sharing the significance of this gear.

Rangers and Rhino Monitors, many of whom have been part of Care for Wild since its inception, serve as a crucial asset in the protection and monitoring of rhinos. Drawing upon their diverse backgrounds, they bring unique skills and knowledge to the sanctuary, including their deep understanding of the ecosystem, which ensures the well-being of released rhinos and contributes to the broader conservation of biodiversity.
The rhino sanctuary thanked its supporters for playing a part in ensuring that these wildlife protectors can continue to fulfil their invaluable role in maintaining the safety and welfare of rhinos while preserving the delicate balance of the ecosystem.
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who made this possible. Your support has quite literally carried our rangers forward.”
