Fans can’t seem to get enough of “The Polygamist”, helping propel the Southern African drama to Netflix’s global charts and fuelling hopes that even bigger recognition could be on the horizon.

South Africa (27 June 2026) – “The Polygamist” has become one of Netflix’s biggest international talking points, proving that African storytelling continues to find its place on the global stage… even Joe Jonas (from the Jonas Brothers) has gotten in on the conversation.

The hit drama reached an impressive No. 4 on Netflix’s Global Non-English TV Chart during its debut week, while climbing all the way to No. 1 in 16 countries. It also pulled in a remarkable 2 million views and an incredible 19.1 million hours watched in just its first week.

Adapted from the novel by Zimbabwean author Sue Nyathi, the 22-episode series dives into a world of wealth, family power struggles and complicated patriarchal relationships. Packed with twists, betrayals and enough drama to keep viewers glued to their screens, fans across social media have described it as the ultimate binge-worthy guilty pleasure.

The series has also found favour on IMDb, where individual episode ratings range between 6.9 and 7.9 out of 10. Critics have been more divided, with many praising the lavish production values and standout performances, while others felt the series leaned more heavily into spectacle than exploring some of its deeper themes. But regardless of where opinions are, one thing is undeniable: people are watching.

And watching in big numbers.

A social media post, which has since been shared across multiple platforms, claims that The Polygamist is predicted to receive a nomination at the 2027 Golden Globe Awards.

“It would be the first time in history a South African-based series is nominated, and only 2nd in history for a Series based in the African continent.”

The original post appears to have come from an X (formerly Twitter) account called “2022 Africa“, although no source or industry prediction has been provided to support the claim.

At this stage, it’s important to note that no official nominations have been announced. Those will be revealed only on Monday, the 7th of December 2026, ahead of the 84th Annual Golden Globe Awards, scheduled for Sunday, the 10th of January 2027.

Could The Polygamist earn a place among television’s biggest honours?

Nobody knows just yet.

But after seeing audiences from around the world embrace the series with such enthusiasm, it’s certainly a dream worth holding onto. Whether that prediction becomes reality or not, the show’s success has already brought Southern African storytelling to millions of viewers and sparked conversations far beyond our borders.

We’ll definitely be saving that viral post and checking back in when the nominations are announced.

In the meantime, we can all have a laugh at Joe Jonas reacting to the show.
