Ten doggies in Kuyasa got colourful new cribs to call their own, hand-painted by Hermanus’ creative community members.

Hermanus, South Africa (15 September 2026) – Doggies in Kuyasa are dreaming in colour, now that they have safe, dry kennels to sleep in! Wags n Whiskers recently joined The Dogbox Project and Whale Coast Mall for a kennel-painting day, where several wooden dog houses were given bright new makeovers.

Better yet, Wags n Whiskers was later gifted 10 of the newly painted kennels to deliver to community dogs in need of shelter!

The organisation has spent much of this year working in Nomnwano, providing sterilisations, vaccinations, deworming, tick and flea treatments and kennels. With the dogs they work with there having shelter, the team decided it was time to extend some of that support to Kuyasa.

Wags n Whiskers recently got to know the area, where they identified dogs most in need of a new kennel.

“Over the past two weeks, we have been getting to know the area — finding missing street names, compiling a map and identifying dogs most in need of shelter.”

Shelter is one important part of Wags n Whiskers work to improve the lives of animals in Hermanus. The organisation also assists with basic animal care and works with communities to encourage responsible pet ownership.

When it came to distributing the colourful kennels in Kuyasa, the organisation says it prioritised sterilised dogs, but there were two unsterilised dogs with no protection from the rain or sun that the team couldn’t leave without shelter. Their owner happily gave Wags n Whiskers permission to have both dogs sterilised in exchange for their new kennels.

In delivering the new kennels to the families, Jolli and Lucky from Mangisi Mini Movers stepped in to donate their vehicle, staff and time to make it happen. And when all the kennels wouldn’t fit onto their truck, they organised a trailer and made sure every last one got to its new home.

It’s the second time the company has helped Wags n Whiskers transport kennels to community dogs.

Each of the 10 dogs received a colourful kennel, while their families were also given dog food and a water bowl.

“Without fail, every owner and their family was excited and genuinely grateful to receive a kennel, together with a bag of dog food and a water bowl,” Wags n Whiskers shared.
