In a proud first for his entire family, Cape Town Para surfer Emihle Sombexe is excited to take his talents and surfboard to California to represent his country on the world stage

Cape Town, South Africa (25 August 2026) – Emihle Jaiden Sombexe has been surfing competitively for four years. The moment he realised how much competitive para-surfing meant to him was during the Western Province Para Trials Kneel Male Division in April 2023. Taking first place in the province and qualifying for nationals gave him an unmatched feeling of accomplishment.

Since then, he hasn’t looked back, relentlessly catching waves and competing toward a bright future in the sport.

“Surfing has built my confidence and independence outside of the water while helping me form great friendships with different people all over the world. Being an athlete means that exercise and physical strength are a huge part of my journey,” he shares.

Emihle currently ranks third in South Africa in his division and recently earned selection to the 2026 South African National Para Surfing Team, heading to the ISA World Para Surfing Championship in California from 19 to 22 November 2026!

The exciting international sporting prospect and opportunity to represent South Africa is a first for his entire family.

As avid supporters of his journey, the Roxy Davis Foundation is cheering him on for the biggest moment of his life and calling on South Africans to back this talented local surfer on the global stage.

“Selection is fully self-funded, with every athlete responsible for covering flights, accommodation, team apparel and travel costs. Every wave he rides is a step toward his Olympic dream. Your support gets him there,” the Roxy Davis Foundation team said.

Funds raised will go towards:

  • SA competition registration
  • Classification
  • Return Cape Town Los Angeles
  • Accommodation
  • Meals
  • Ground transport
  • Coaching & preparation
