Many hands make light work, and in this case, they also got many happy tails wagging excitedly! Animal welfare heroes came together to sterilise 92 dogs and 79 cats on World Spay Day, offering a brighter future for both pets and their communities.
Cape Town, South Africa (03 March 2025) – In honour of World Spay Day (25 February), six animal welfare charities united under the banner of “We Step In Together” to tackle the pet overpopulation crisis head-on!
As a result, 171 animals -92 dogs and 79 cats- were successfully sterilised, and thousands of unwanted litters were prevented in just one day!
The incredibly impactful initiative was made possible by the joint efforts of Cape of Good Hope SPCA, Paws-a-While, Howlelujah Foundation, TEARS, Afripaw, and Aid4Aid as part of the SPCA’s We Step In campaign, which is dedicated to breaking the cycle of suffering through mass sterilisation.
Loving pet owners brought their cats and dogs to be sterilised, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for ticks and fleas —not just because it was free but because they care for their furry companions.
These precious dogs and cats went home with full bellies, collars, tags, and most importantly, a healthier future!
Reflecting on the successful sterilisation day, Cape of Good Hope SPCA Spokesperson Belinda Abraham shared:
“This is what happens when we step in together. The impossible is made possible. With the addition of many willing hands and hearts aligned to a common goal, we can achieve so much more.
“The SPCA cannot fight pet overpopulation alone. We need every rescue group to share our vision of a home for every animal. A vision that will only be realised through aggressive sterilisation campaigns.”
