The Animal Welfare Society of South Africa is set to embark on its most ambitious sterilisation and vaccination drive yet to help 700 pets!
Philippi, South Africa (24 March 2025) — The Animal Welfare Society of South Africa (AWS SA) is gearing up for a big start to April thanks to a sterilisation and vaccination drive that hopes to help 700 pets for free in Philippi.
The AWS SA shares that this will be the most ambitious pet sterilisation and vaccination drive to date, making it one for the books.
For the local community, drives like this offer a huge sense of relief. Not only will beloved pets become protected from life-threatening diseases thanks to vaccinations (that are unaffordable for many families otherwise), but unwanted litters and pet overpopulation in the area will also be prevented on account of the sterilisations.
For communities without the means to care for the animals already in their midst, reducing the introduction of more animals serves both pets and people.
Spokesperson of the AWS SA, Allan Perrins, shares that the teams will be going door-to-door from 1 April, starting with the Philippi farming community. The project is aimed exclusively at pet owners living within a 10km radius of the AWS’s headquarters.
For the AWS team, the opportunity to help 700 animals in this way has been long-anticipated.
“We’ve waited almost 2 years for this funding,” Allan explained, thanking the National Lotteries Commission of South Africa for making the massive drive possible.
