Love was truly in the air in Vrygrond this past Saturday as AfriPaw and its amazing partners in animal welfare attended to over 1,000 furbabies and their dedicated owners in Vrygrond.
Vrygrond, South Africa (18 February 2026) – ‘Love in Action’ was the theme for AfriPaw’s Valentine’s Day Pet Clinic – and fittingly so!
1,065 Reasons to Smile
Held in Vrygrond near Muizenberg this past Saturday, there was much to celebrate, including the organisation surpassing its goal of attending to 1,000 animals for the first time! An impressive 1,065 pets (711 dogs and 354 cats) attended, thanks to their caring owners seeking the best care.
The AfriPaw Pet Taxi, funded by Network for Animals and now equipped with a fully operational taxi rank and booking system, worked diligently to assist those unable to reach the clinic on their own on the day.
“We had new volunteers, including representatives from Thina Outreach, and to top it all, we had the pleasure of welcoming our new Honorary Patron, Jeremy Olivier, for the first time. Jeremy recently returned from six years in the Netherlands, and we are delighted to have a prominent musician with a profound love for Africa and its people support our work,” said AfriPaw.
It was clearly a day of animal heroes working together for deserving furry friends, as TEARS Animal Rescue and Kitten Clinic arrived early to serve at their dedicated hospital and vaccination stations for cats.
The Animal Welfare Society of SA also visited and actively contributed to whatever was needed, helping the AfriPaw team share love and care with the community and their pets. A donation of nutritious food to supplement their usual pet food parcels was generously provided by Lionel’s Choice Holistic Pet Nutrition.
“None of this would be possible without our incredible funders, the Edgard & Cooper Foundation, the Marching Trust, The Stretch Foundation, the City of Cape Town, Boehringer Ingelheim (NexGard South Africa), and of course, our amazing AfriPaw Ambassadors and Volunteers.”

Gearing up for World Spay Day
With the clinic day now done and dusted, AfriPaw looks forward to another important date on their calendar: World Spay Day on Tuesday, 24 February.
The animal welfare organisations will once again collaborate with TEARS Animal Rescue, the Animal Welfare Society of SA, and TAH – The Animal Hospital and Vetshop to sterilise 350 pets from Vrygrond, Overcome Heights, Hillview, Seawinds, and Lavender Hill.
“Our ten AfriPaw Ambassadors are currently working in these communities to secure sterilisation sign-ups, educate pet owners on the benefits of sterilisation, responsible pet care, animal rights, and ensure households are fully prepared for the campaign.”

AfriPaw will handle all pre- and post-event logistics. Each pet will return home sterilised, vaccinated, parasite-treated, provided with a bag of nutritious food, and given a roadmap for ongoing care.
