A bare wall has undergone a delightful transformation in Fish Hoek thanks to artist Eva van Belle, who wanted to spruce up the scene and certainly did. Thanks to Eva, the wall now holds space as a mini-mural and a little love note to the area’s natural surroundings and friends.
Fish Hoek, South Africa (14 January 2025) — We all know them: those bare walls that could be so much more than bricks and peeling paint.
We pass them by, pay them a few seconds of attention, wonder if they’ll ever look better and carry on with our days. But for one, Eva van Belle, a certain bare wall along the Zoutendyk Steps couldn’t be ignored any longer.
Eva decided to turn the humble space into art, a delightful love note to the natural surroundings and friends of the Fish Hoek area.
With birds in flight, fabulous fynbos, protea flowers, caracals, tortoises on the move and delicate butterflies, the mini-mural is something of a portal to a world that exists for all who wish to explore and care for it.
The work has been created all in a slick silhouette style, allowing those passing by to fill in the scene with their own memories and imaginings of the flora and fauna depicted, making for deeper connections to the creation.
Eva hoped to create more awareness of the incredible biome in the area. Sharing her creation with the group Fynbos People, the artist was met with a spectacular display of approval, and many thanked her for the effort.
