A dog named Cheddar narrowly escaped an unhappy fate. Instead, he was reunited with his car guard owner, to the joy of the duo.

Knysna, South Africa (25 March 2025) — A dog named Cheddar ended up on the wrong side of misinformation recently in Knysna before thankfully being reunited with his owner.

Earlier this month, Cheddar was picked up as a ‘stray’ in Knysna, though things weren’t exactly adding up.

As the Knysna Animal Welfare Society explained, Cheddar was in good condition, indicating that he did, in fact, have an owner from whom he’d likely been separated.

“The concerned member of the public who called us about the dog spent the next few days trying to track down the owner, who, we eventually established, was a car guard in town,” the team said.

However, an alleged friend of the car guard informed those enquiring that the car guard didn’t want his dog anymore, leading Cheddar to the pound.

Visibly distressed and aggravated, Cheddar’s days were sadly numbered.

“We tried one last attempt to reach the owner via the person who had found the dog,” the Knysna Animal Welfare Society team added.

It was then that the team learned that the owner’s friend might not exactly be in line for any ‘friend of the year’ awards anytime soon.

“Turns out Cheddar’s owner had never said he didn’t want [his dog], he just had no means to get to us. The two have been reunited now and the smile on Cheddar’s face says it all.”
