Through interactive learning programmes delivered via tablets, the Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary, in collaboration with the Good Work Foundation, is nurturing young minds to become the next generation of conservation leaders.

Mpumalanga, South Africa (29 July 2025) – Every year, July 28 is observed as World Nature Conservation Day, a global reminder of the need to protect and preserve the environment.

This year, the day focused on exploring digital innovation in wildlife conservation and the growing role of technology in strengthening our relationship with the natural world.

At Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary in Mpumalanga, this innovation is not theoretical; it is practical, purposeful, and already deeply embedded in their work. Together with the Good Work Foundation, they are equipping children within communities surrounding the sanctuary with the digital tools they need to become tomorrow’s conservation leaders.

According to the organisation, interactive learning programmes delivered by devices like tablets allow students to gain exposure to the principles of conservation, environmental science, and digital literacy.

“This technology not only bridges the digital divide, it inspires a new generation to see themselves as custodians of their natural heritage.”

In addition to its educational value, technology also significantly enhances Care for Wild’s ability to monitor and protect wildlife.

“Using handheld tablets, our rangers record detailed observations of rhino behaviour, habitat use, and biodiversity encounters. This information is fed directly into a central operations room, where real-time data supports rapid decision-making for anti-poaching operations, veterinary interventions, and ecological management.”

World Conservation Day celebrates these powerful connections, between technology, people, and the planet, reaffirming a collective commitment to a future where all three can thrive together.
