Aquarium employees were informed that two dolphins and their calves were lost in a canal, the staff observed them for three days then actioned a rescue team.
Florida, United States – A group of experts in a variety of fields came together to help rescue two mother dolphins and their calves. The dolphins swam inland and were unable to find their way back to the ocean; they spent three days swimming up and down a murky canal before being rescued.
Clearwater Marine Aquarium and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation group joined forces to help rescue four very lost dolphins.
The medics, animal rescuers and aquarium employees took to the murky water to help guide the dolphins back into the ocean. The rescuers formed a human chain, walking and swimming along to urge the dolphins towards the sea.
This method was used as it was the least stressful on the dolphins and their calves. We think it may have been a little more stressful for the rescuers. Imagine having to wade through dark and murky water like that? Thankfully, the group were doing it for a great cause.
At first, the one pair of dolphins made their way back out to the ocean, after a slight readjustment, the group were able to guide the second pair safely out of the canal.
Once the dolphins saw their way out, they swam straight ahead and fast as possible.
The video of the rescue has gone viral with millions of people being inspired by the actions of a few people. Take a look at their efforts below.
