The four-legged furbabies of the township community of Ntuzuma received the very best treatment courtesy of a successful health check and sterilisation outreach visit by the Durban & Coast SPCA.
Ntuzuma, South Africa (13 October 2025) – The inspectors, field officers, and support staff of the Durban & Coast SPCA gathered goods and supplies before hopping into their rides, setting off in a convoy to the heart of Ntuzuma, where they carried out a successful community outreach in this Durban township.
Thanks to a special sponsorship and the collaboration of local community leaders, the SPCA team was able to set up a station outside a parish property.
With the help of the community leaders, residents were invited to bring their cats, dogs, puppies, and kittens for a health check and sterilisation.
Animals were checked in, given a health assessment, and then safely transported to the SPCA in Springfield Park. Upon arrival, each animal was weighed, dewormed, vaccinated against rabies, treated for fleas, and made comfortable in clean kennels with fresh blankets, food, and water.
The following day, all animals were safely returned to the delight of their loving owners.
“It was truly heartwarming to see how much the community cares about their animals,” said Tanya Fleischer, Marketing Manager of the Durban & Coast SPCA.
“Thanks to the generosity of our donor and the incredible support from Ntuzuma’s community leaders, we were able to make a real difference and give back to the people and animals who need it most.”

It is such community outreach programmes that form the vital threads that weave a safety net of compassion and sustainability in underserved communities. Beyond the immediate reduction of overpopulation, which prevents countless animals from suffering starvation, disease, and cruelty on the streets, these initiatives offer benefits to people as well. They deliver accessible veterinary care and education – resources often out of reach – inspiring responsible pet ownership, improving animal health and reducing the spread of diseases like rabies.
The Durban & Coast SPCA extends heartfelt thanks to the sponsor who made this outreach possible, the Ntuzuma community for their warm welcome, and every member of the public who brought their animals forward for care.
