A group were on a game drive in the Kruger National Park when a herd of elephants came stampeding across their path, some were not too happy to see them.
Kruger National Park, South Africa – A terrifying moment for a group on a game drive has people in awe of what they got to experience first hand. A herd of elephant were spotted running through the bush and the game driver brought his vehicle to a halt so they could watch the elephant stampede.
While the entire encounter was hair-raising, the game driver kept his passengers calm and quiet so they could watch the sighting.
According to The South African, the herd of elephants were apparently trying to scare away a group of nearby lions. The game driver did what was safest and sat tight to wait for the elephants to pass.
The angry Elephant seen trying to intimidate the driver and his passengers was doing so because some of the herd were still waiting to cross the road. Many were young and so his intimidation was solely to protect those who hadn’t crossed yet. One of the passengers recounted the ordeal to the Kruger National Park YouTube channel. He was the one filming during the stampede.
“The safari guide thinks they were stampeding to scare some lions away from the area, as there were a lot of baby elephants in the group. It was truly terrifying, we had no idea what to do, the guide was telling us to be calm.”
“I wasn’t sure if I had to run and hide, which probably is the last thing you should do. Eventually, we start the car and slowly drive away. After we were safe it was an amazing experience, but at that moment I was so frightened, and the energy and the sound of those giant elephants screaming at us was intense. I’ll never forget it!” – Trent Holmes
Thankfully, nobody was injured only left a little rattled and one heck of a story to tell. Take a look below at their hair-raising encounter. Have you ever witnessed a stampede?
