With a heart full of hope and a mindset on success, Mthokozisi Dlamini joined a Duzi-uMngeni Conservation Trust programme, mastering the skills of operating a brush cutter – skills that would open a world of opportunities and greatly improve his life.

Pietermaritzburg, South Africa (03 March 2025) – With your heart and mind in the right place, coupled with a whole lot of determination, there are few things one person cannot achieve!

Envirochamp, Mthokozisi Dlamini, could tell you quite a bit about this, having gathered the courage to join a Duzi-uMngeni Conservation Trust programme to develop and master the skills of operating a brush cutter.

After successfully completing the programme, equipped with new skills, Mthokozisi took it to the next level by buying his own brush cutter and offering services to his community.

According to the Trust, he has developed a business and has gone on to invest in a second brush cutter.

“The cherry on top?? He landed a garden maintenance contract with his former school, Ntokozweni Special School, in Sweetwaters.

“With a huge smile, he shared how he has been able to buy himself a brand-new bed he had always wanted and is now also able to financially support his family,” shares Duzi-uMngeni Conservation Trust.

Through its empowerment programmes, a man with a dream, not defined by his special needs, has been able to improve his life as well as that of his family and community.
