Due to the dry winter we have had, the bees are suffering, and it is known that there is not enough honey to get them through. But South African’s are teaching us a thing or two!
It has been doing it’s round on social media, and here it is, the perfect way to do your bit to help the bees, we all know that we NEED bees to survive!
1kg white sugar
1litre water
Boil for 5min, then add a tablespoon spirit vinegarPartially fill a plastic freezer bag with sugar water, about half full. Gently squeeze the bag to expel all the air. Tie the neck of the bag using an elastic band. Place the bag on the top bars of the frames in the top box of the hive, under the hive cover. Use a brad or very small diameter nail to punch about 6-8 small holes into the upper surface of the bag. The bees will suck the syrup through the holes.
Place in your garden
When Spring arrives and the flowers start to blossom- you will be glad you did so!
