Joburgers united behind Mr Gooby to find the SPCA Randburg’s longest resident a home. Now, we’re happy to report that this SPCA ‘old boy’ has found his new family!
Johannesburg, South Africa (06 September 2024) — Recently, Good Things Guy, along with many other South Africans, were immensely heartsore to learn that Mr Gooby, a dog dubbed the SPCA Randburg’s ‘longest resident’, had still not found his next home.
Initially, Mr Gooby had been surrendered to the SPCA Randburg due to the fact that his former family could no longer look after him, Lyndall Ngwenya of the SPCA tells Good Things Guy. Mr Gooby would stay on with the SPCA for several lengthy weeks, dishearteningly watching numerous other animals leave before him.
When Mr Gooby’s story was shared and his search for a home put on social media’s radar, Joburgers who could not take him on themselves united in a most uplifting display to share the pooch’s situation, spreading his message far and wide with 3,500 shares!
In a heartwarming turn of events for the SPCA’s ‘old boy’, Mr Gooby’s happy ending has come at last and he has finally found a home thanks to a young couple in Fairlands.
The SPCA Randburg reports that they have received feedback that Mr Gooby has settled in well with his new family.
Now, his story stands as an important reminder for all—even if you can’t adopt, you can spread the word and make a massive difference.
In other news of happy endings for dogs, Sharky the puppy, who received no applications for his adoption time and time again, also found his forever home recently.
And if you’ve got the adoption itch, there’s an upcoming adoption event happening in Cape Town tomorrow where you might just meet your next puppy!
