Gift of the Givers made waves of impact recently, delivering literal tons of fresh fish to hungry people in the Klein Karoo!
Western Cape (5 April, 2023) — Faces lit up in the Klein Karoo recently thanks to a not-so-little visit from the Gift of the Givers Foundation.
Over 1.2 tons of fresh fish was delivered to soup kitchens and people in Bridgerton Oudtshoorn as part of the Hunger Alleviation Programme that’s tackling food insecurity one meal at a time.

Beyond the fantastic fish project, Gift of the Givers distributes 100,000 food parcels a year, supports other feeding schemes and serves up hot meals on the daily.
Now, you might be wondering how all those fish came about. The Fishing Project is something of a double-whammy that dives head first into the Groenvlei Carp problem.
Said problem? As CapeNature shares, Groenvlei Carp are invasive and not exactly fan favourites for certain environments, i.e., the Groenvlei Lake.
So, what do you do when you have a fish causing environmental havoc and hungry people? You serve a community.
The project kicked off a few years ago, and has fed over hundreds of thousands in the Garden Route.
And, the recent fish haul fed over 4000 people!
When they’re not up to something fishy (in the best way), the foundation changes lives in other ways. GOTG is the largest disaster response, a non-governmental organisation on the continent, providing all-important relief and dignity to people who need it most.
The Foundation is also focused on water provision, healthcare and human development, to name a few.
GOTG can be found all over the world and right under your nose, with efforts from South Africa to Yemen.
