The 2025 Glass Recycling Company Schools Competition is in session, and glass waste is far from safe! With a mission to inspire eco-friendly actions in a fun, competitive way, schools across the country are battling it out to see who can collect the most recyclables.

South Africa (20 February 2025) — The Glass Recycling Company Schools Competition is back and ready to ensure that glass waste gets the boot straight to recycling facilities thanks to the many learners and teachers partaking in the national challenge!

A competition in which schools across Gauteng, the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and the greater Durban and Pietermaritzburg areas are battling it out, the effort is a fun way to inspire recycling habits in younger South Africans.

The more people who exercise this habit from a young age means more hope for a better, cleaner and greener South Africa and even a version of our country in which recycling is simply common practice for all.

How the Competition Works:

Schools are tasked with amassing as many glass bottles and jars as they can. With a glass bank from The Glass Recycling Company in tow, all the schools need to focus on is tackling the waste and spreading the word so that their surrounding communities can also help their mission along.

As it is a competitive effort, learners must collect more than what other schools have collected. Schools with the most glass waste will rank high and win prizes with over R440,000 in rewards on the cards! Portions of this amount will be distributed through monthly prizes or through grand prizes.

Schools also have the chance to secure additional monthly contributions for every ton of glass recycled!

From elegant jam jars to empty soda bottles, every bit of glass waste collected adds up to a fantastic, recyclable sum.

Can My School Still Take Part?

Although the competition kicked off on 1 February, any school can join in on the eco-effort at any point in the year. You can find out more about getting your school involved here.
