Now, Lucky Lucy Foundation’s sicklings get to recover basking in the sun.
Malmesbury, South Africa (11 September 2025) – Some dreams sit quietly in the background until the right people come along to make them happen.
It all started earlier this year when the Glitter Team visited the Lucky Lucy Foundation with a kind donation of rain jackets for staff members. While there, they heard about the rescue centre’s ‘impossible’ dream of building window-style catio boxes for recovering kittens and cats in their care, getting the cats outside into the fresh air and sunshine, but keeping them safe too.
“We have been trying to decide what we could do as a lasting legacy for our 7th birthday this year, and after building the piggy shelter in Greyton for our birthday a few years back, we decided that this was a perfect project,” decided the Glitter gals.
They went above and beyond in their fundraising efforts, running cake raffles, rallying a total of 40 pledges and using every resource they could to make their seventh birthday wish come true.

After months of pushing to reach the goal, they arrived at the rescue centre over the weekend with the happy news that they’d raised a whopping R11,000, enough to build three outdoor ‘catios’ for the clinic rooms, with a little extra to spoil the cats further.
The Lucky Lucy team were floored.
“To say we are humbled and grateful is an understatement. We are beyond privileged to have crossed paths with such a team of passionate, kind-hearted women who believe in making a difference.” they shared.
The ladies didn’t stop at funding the catios either.
They also brought along beautiful ottoman beds and special cat beds made from repurposed tyres, lovingly crafted by Kate van der Merwe. The cats wasted no time in claiming their new gifts. It shows that even the smallest comforts can make a world of difference in a shelter environment.

“This project is about so much more than putting up enclosures. It’s about creating a safe and happy haven for the cats in the Lucky Lucy hospital area — a place where they can stretch out in the sunshine, breathe in fresh air, and simply enjoy being cats while they heal. These precious souls deserve comfort and dignity on their road to recovery, and knowing that our fundraising will help make this dream a reality fills our hearts with joy,” the Glitter Team shared.
The catios are already under construction, thanks to a local builder who wasted no time getting started. Soon, the cats at Lucky Lucy will have their own little outdoor spaces to recover in peace.
