In a heartfelt celebration of the often-overlooked working cart horses and their dedicated owners in rural communities, the Highveld Horse Care Unit will be hosting its third and exciting Outreach Virtual Competition.
Gauteng, South Africa (01 July 2025) – For the third consecutive year, the Highveld Horse Care Unit (HHCU) will host its Outreach Virtual Competition, with all proceeds supporting working equines.
This competition, held in the rural communities in Gauteng where the Highveld Horse Care Unit works, showcases images of working cart equines and their dedicated owners who compete for the most votes.
By showcasing these magnificent animals and their caregivers, the competition not only raises vital awareness about the excellent care many working equines receive but also fosters a ripple effect of positivity and healthy competition within the communities themselves.
“This initiative has attracted support from corporates and supporters who share our commitment to enhancing equine welfare through our Outreach Programme,” shares Highveld Horse Care Unit Fundraiser, Joanne Pursey.
From 1 July, the public can witness this dedication firsthand as a sponsored photo will be shared on HHCU’s social media every evening at 6 pm.
“Following the showcase of 20 working equines, the public will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite horse online,” Joanne explains.
Every vote is a R200 donation, which becomes a direct investment in equine welfare: R100 empowers the horse’s owner, and R100 strengthens the Unit’s essential work.
In celebrating the unsung heroes of rural communities and their beloved equine partners, while the competition will crown a winner based on votes received, every participant will receive R100 from their respective votes.
“Furthermore, our generous sponsors have kindly donated items and funds to recognise the achievements of all competitors.”
Don’t you just love it when everyone walks away with something?! This competition is truly worth supporting, as it highlights the dedication of equine owners in less fortunate rural areas and uplifts them too.
