They immediately wrapped her in a blanket and brought her to safety.
Bloemfontein, South Africa (20 October 2025) – She had been fighting for her life in the most unimaginable place. She was trapped in barbed wire, half-submerged in freezing sewage water, crying out for help.
Exhausted and in pain, she was running out of strength.
But luck was on her side, quite literally. Specifically, Inspector Lucky Olifant and his team from the Bloemfontein SPCA.
A passer-by heard the helpless dog’s desperate cries echoing from a sewage drain and called the SPCA for help. Within minutes, the team arrived ready to be heroes. They found her shivering so violently she could barely keep her head up, tangled tightly in barbed wire.
“We carefully freed her from the barbed wire and wrapped her in a warm blanket…giving her the comfort and safety she deserved,” recounts Inspector Lucky.
The traumatised dog was brought into the Bloem SPCA, where she was treated with urgent medical care, given food, and tucked into a warm bed.
The Bloemfontein SPCA thanked the member of the public who made that lifesaving call. Without them, the story could have ended very differently.
“To the compassionate person who made that call — thank you for being her voice when she couldn’t speak for herself,” they shared.
With this and every other rescue that Inspector Lucky and his team make, they’re bringing light back into distressed animals’ lives.
