Cats Kitten Season

Inspired by his gogo’s love for cats, a young man named Jonas stepped up to help a family of feral felines living under a bridge.

Kempton Park, South Africa (29 January 2025) – Our parents have such a profoundly loving impact on us, and oftentimes, without even realising it, we find ourselves inheriting some of their mannerisms, quirks and interests as our own.

Touched by the love his grandmother had for cats, Jonas grew to adore them just as much. Under her guidance, he learned everything there is to know about taking care of them.

It was this love for cats that aided a family of feral cats, which had been spotted by a mother and daughter last December residing under a bridge on a road in a local area of Kempton Park.

According to Kempton Park Feral Felines NPO, the mother and daughter made contact with the organisation to assist the family and get the cats sterilised.

However, when the NPO visited the feline family, the mother cat welcomed gentle strokes before quickly disappearing under the bridge. This presented a significant challenge in terms of locating, capturing, and assisting them.

Fast forward to earlier this month, the mother who had initially spotted the cat family informed Kempton Park Feral Felines that she had discovered that a young man by the name of Jonas had been feeding the cats.

Thanks to this special gentleman and his attentive nature, the cats were safely trapped for sterilisation last week.

When asked how he came to love cats, Jonas said that his beloved Gogo in Mpumalanga had shown him how to take care of animals.

“He was so helpful with the carrying around, setting of traps and trapping them. We trapped four of the little family (the little grey one is proving to be the tough one to catch, but we will not give up trying),” said Kempton Park Feral Felines.

The four kitties were sterilised on Thursday and kept safe before being released again last Friday.

A video shared on Facebook shows Jonas releasing his cat little family into a safe area – a sweet moment enough to tug at the heart of any cat lover!
