The K9 Search and Rescue Association of South Africa has welcomed a new hero puppy into its squad, where she will be imperative to important rescue missions!
Cape Town, South Africa (23 August 2024) — The K9 Search and Rescue Association of South Africa (K9 SARA) is proud to welcome young hero pup K9 Aluna into their family as their all-star squad of dogs continues to grow strong.
Aluna is a 13-week-old puppy who joined K9 SARA at 8-weeks-old. Like any budding hero, she’s been busy with all sorts of training; following in the inspiring paw steps of the other squad dogs.
Her training has meant learning how to navigate different environments, becoming comfortable with new people and other animals and, of course, search skills preparation in between many games of tug of war.
Who are the K9 SARA?
When a hiker goes missing, a person can’t be found after a building collapses or a natural disaster strikes leaving many separated from their families, it’s often trained dogs who help turn these tragedies into happy endings thanks to their scent trailing abilities.
The K9 SARA is a non-profit volunteer organisation that trains some of the fluffier heroes of our country to put their noses to the ground for all of these important reasons.
Here, dogs with a natural knack for finding people and things can join the K9 SARA family, where they are trained by other volunteers.
