A ginger-and-white kitten recently found himself in a tight spot – literally! Discovered inside the engine of a Kia to escape the cold, he soon received much-needed care to prepare him for his next chapter.

Edenvale, South Africa (25 August 2025) – Nearly two months ago, one sweet ginger-and-white kitten found itself in quite the predicament.

Discovered nestled in the engine of a Kia vehicle, this little guy, whose journey was unknown, was rescued just in time by the Edenvale SPCA team.

According to the SPCA, warm engines can seem like a safe refuge from the cold for animals and often crawl into tight spaces under the hood, near the tires, or even inside the engine bay to sleep.

“It’s especially common in cold months and in urban or suburban areas where animals are trying to survive harsh conditions.”

Following this harrowing start in one of the most unexpected places, the Edenvale SPCA team dedicated itself to helping the kitten heal, learn to trust again, and slowly come out of his shell. And as of last week, the kitten, aptly named “Kia”, finally found his forever family!

“His new family stopped by, hoping to meet their future fur-family member, and they must have arrived at just the right time. Kia had been moved up for adoption less than 10 minutes before they walked through the door.”

Talk about the purr-fect timing of things!

Though this little guy’s story journey started on a scary note, he found the critical care that opened the doors to a warm place he’ll now know and cherish as home.

“We know, without a doubt, that Kia has found the family he was meant to be with – a place where he’ll be safe, loved, and cherished beyond measure,” the SPCA said.

Enjoy your new home, Kia boy.
