First impressions matter, and the Kloof Conservancy team is ensuring its town always puts its best foot forward by transforming the M13 into a vibrant landmark.
Kloof, South Africa (27 January 2026) – A town’s standout character is often defined by its upkeep and natural beauty – two things the Kloof Conservancy treats as a top priority! Among their most significant initiatives is the ongoing vegetation management along the M13. A project that transforms a busy commuter route into a pleasantly scenic one.
The Kloof Conservancy team removes litter, removes invasive alien species and cuts the grass on the verges and centre median regularly. Spanning the long stretch from Paradise Valley all the way to the Old Main Road Hillcrest off-ramp, their dedication ensures that the heart of Kloof remains vibrant, green, and welcoming for every resident and visitor.
“Over the years, we have planted aloes in the centre median to improve the appearance of the M13. Last year, we had a good response to an appeal for donations in cash or plants, and with those donations, we planted approximately 2km of aloes (not closely packed) between Hillcrest and Gillitts and 30m of densely packed agapanthus at the top of Fields Hill,” shares Kloof Conservancy Chairman, Paolo Candotti.
Thanks to the support of environmentally responsible local businesses, the project is funded by the small advertising signs placed on local verges.

And because maintenance is key to a tidy town, Candotti says the Conservancy hopes to continue its programme and extend the planting of Aloe arborescens, Dietes grandiflora, Dietes bicolour and Agapanthus in the area. But they need a helping hand to bring this goal into full bloom.
“We are appealing for more support in either cash (for purchasing plants) or plant donations. Your support will be much appreciated (and visible to all!).”
If you can donate plants, please e-mail the Kloof Conservancy at info@kloofconservancy.org.za. Alternatively, cash donations can be made online or to the banking details below.
